The Market-leading E-learning Software & Technology Service Provider from Norway.
Established in 2005, Kikora AS is a Norwegian company based in Oslo, specializing in e-learning software and technologies for effective yet joyful mathematics learning. The company has been providing its web-based digital teaching tools for mathematics for over 17 years. With more than 100 different courses and webinars available each year, the superior online mathematics training services by Kikora have been widely adopted in the home market – Norway and the company is underway the introduction into other European countries.
Challenge
On the way to scaling up and expanding the market across the EU nations, Kikora would like to make its transition to advanced technologies to stay ahead of the curve. Accordingly, the company determined to make an action plan to replace the current client with a brand new version that includes more new features, such as adaptivity, learning insights, programming, and more. The new client would be written in the latest version of the Angular web framework, and this would be a long-term project.
In the first phase of the project, Kikora started developing an MVP (Minimum Viable Product). Basically, the MVP would be built as a somewhat stripped version of the current client. During the development cycle of the MVP, the Kikora team still had to maintain and polish the current client in tandem. This, accordingly, posed some obstacles associated with inadequate manpower and expertise.
In order to break through the challenges and stick to the plan, Kikora had no other way but to boost its force by outsourcing a dedicated team of developers, and Orient Software was the strategic IT partner Kikora chose to collaborate with.
Solution
Soon after processing the requirements from Kikora, Orient Software convened a dedicated team of 4 members, consisting of one leader, two developers, and one QC. They are all familiar with the latest Angular and rich in experience. Our team then met up with the counterparts from Kikora and had a further discussion, and we input information and ideas to the roadmap from the technical perspective, eventually shaping the final direction for the project.
As in the first phase, our team worked along with the counterparts from Kikora on its two projects. One was to develop the MVP of the new client, and the other one was to maintain and fine-tune the old client until the new one was completed. Therefore, our team arranged reasonable time and resources for each as well as balanced the workload in order to keep both projects going on track. Using the latest version of the Angular framework, our team started off building the structure of the new client based on 50% – 60% of the old one.
Impact
With a clear roadmap and a strong technical team in place, the first phase of Kikora’s project was completed with flying colors. The new client was released on time with multiple new features delivered as planned, and it successfully replaced the old one.
From the strategic perspective, the success of the new client gave Kikora a competitive edge in technology advancement to thrive in the e-learning market and scale up faster, and it is also a monumental milestone in the overall business growth of Kikora in the upcoming time.
Kikora was pleased with the deliverable and impressed with our team’s performance regarding time management, and high productivity, so the company decided to extend the contract with Orient Software. The project is now ongoing, and it is in the second phase of development.
